Stepping Out of the Energy Game

by | Mar 5, 2026

Say we receive some news that isn’t particularly favorable. There’s a kind of consensus version of how we’re expected to deal with that. If it’s death, we’re meant to grieve. If it’s other difficult news, we’re expected to be shocked. If it’s something else, we might be really happy.

But the interpretation is entirely down to us.

In the human realm, we know there is always change. If you decide beforehand that you can remain at peace, then even when news arrives, you don’t need to step into the drama or the grief. You can simply remain at peace.

It’s important to understand that it is only ever our own energy that fuels the experiences we’re having. If we go into deep grief, anger, or depression, it is our own energy that fuels those states. There’s no benefit in doing that. Yet everything in this world invites us to identify with those reactions, because it’s an energy game. It’s a self-contained energy game. The dualistic realm encompasses the mental, emotional, and physical. You could say the physical realm is the physical, the emotional realm is the etheric, the mental realm is the astral, and the causal realm is the body of wisdom. But the dualistic realms are the physical, etheric, and astral.

Even in the reincarnation cycle, many people say that with liberation you’re free of it. The reason is that the dualistic ground is self-contained. Its purpose is to get you back on planet Earth as a battery fueling the Matrix.

People have the human experience. The physical body dies, and they find themselves in the etheric or astral realm. They meet spirit guides who say, “You did quite well, but you could have done a little better. You’d better go back and learn a few more lessons.” The whole purpose is to bring you back into the energy game.

But once you understand how it works, you don’t accept those invitations back into limitation. You realize that if you remain functioning from the body of wisdom, you’re not stepping into mental, emotional, or physical turmoil. There is far more consciousness available than people realize.

There’s also an element of tacit consent. People consent to things without realizing they’re consenting. Identification itself is a form of consent.

In the human experience, most people have unconsciously consented to identification with the mind — with the thinking process. They’ve consented to identification with emotions and with the physical body. But none of those are truly what we are.

We remain as this open field of awareness.

There is awareness of thoughts, so we are not the thoughts. There is awareness of emotion, so we are not the emotions. There is awareness of the body.

There’s a teacher called Douglas Harding whose approach I like. He points out that if you look closely at what’s happening, we’re looking through the body-mind — we never actually become it. We’re looking through the eyes. Hearing is available. You can look down and see legs and arms. There is awareness of the body.

It’s only because everyone has said, “You are the physical body,” that we believe it. In reality, it’s more like a vehicle. It’s simply available to us. We can use it — or we can park it.
