When You Stop Feeding the Monster

by | Jun 25, 2026

My brother had a business for years, and he was always totally busy, never had any rest or anything. Then he had an issue with his knee, so he couldn’t work.

He said, “I really don’t know what I’m going to do. I think my business is going to collapse, and we’re going to be in terrible trouble.”

I said, “Well, let’s have a look.”

So we reviewed his situation. We looked at everything, like his banking, liabilities, and finances. What became apparent was that the most expensive aspect of his life was the business.

He was really working to feed this monster.

It was quite dramatic in a way, but I said, “Just simplify things in your life and make every day as joyful as it can possibly be.”

You begin to devise the day so that it’s serving you rather than feeling you’re subject to it and that you have to comply with all of the demands. His phone was always ringing, and he never had any space.

So we sat down and I asked, “What is it you like to do?”

He said, “We like to go to nice environments by the coast, or we like to visit stately homes, go to a garden center, or just go for coffee.” Really simple things.

He and his wife started to plan their days. Before, it was having a list of all the jobs to do and being like a slave to it. But they started to divide the day up in a way that was to do with a sense of ease, joy, and lightness, while still being responsible. They have a little dog, so they take their dog with them, and they really enjoy that.

When you turn things around in that way, when you’re consciously devising the day to be as joyful as possible for everyone—but especially for yourself initially—you find that other people around you pick up on that, and it has a kind of energetic impact on them.

This is something you can easily do on a practical level.

The turning point for my brother’ was seeing his life differently. Join us for our upcoming online event and discover how a shift in perception can open the door to greater ease, clarity, and freedom.
