Sovereignty, Equality, and Realisation

by | Apr 7, 2026

In some eastern traditions, gurus seem to offer the best opportunity for realisation. But it’s usually necessary to surrender to gurus. Some western spiritual teachers also like to maintain a hierarchy.

When we have a guru, we can play the game of adoration. It can be quite an enjoyable experience, but it is still on the level of duality.

For realization, it is more simple to accept one’s sovereign spiritual nature, which is on the level of equality.

On one side, there are people who feel as though they could never realize their true nature. They feel as though it could never happen to them. They feel inferior.

On the other side is the idea that one’s guru or teacher, is superior, imparting the most sublime knowledge available. Self realisation can then be elusive, as we’ve handed our power to the guru.

It’s necessary to reach a point where we can accept our own sovereignty and equality. When we let go of the idea that a guru or a teacher is superior, or that we are inferior, realisation becomes possible.

If we give our power away to a guru, we are compromising the possibility of realisation. When we accept our sovereignty, realisation is available to us.

Please feel free to join our next meeting to discuss this further…
